MasterCraft comes back out

Filed under: Kitchen — Admin @ 5:13 pm

MasterCraft came out last week with just the four remaining doors for our large custom cabinet-pantry.

Unfortunately, they forgot the knobs.

So today, they came back out and took off the knobs.

They also removed all the new crown molding in the kitchen that we had installed, in preparation for getting the tin ceiling installed.

Ah, but first, we have to put up wallpaper! What fun!

My wife may have found somebody with a bit more time on their hands in the next two weeks than I have, though. Which is good, because this is something of a “rush job” when compared to how the rest of this kitchen remodel project has gone so far. Yes, we’d like to get the wallpaper done sometime in the next 2-3 weeks, God-willing.

Then, Nani’s Impresa will be back out to put in the tin ceiling and the tin backsplash. Next, Mastercraft will make their (hopefully) final visit, to put the crown molding back up.

And then we’ll be done!

Oops, almost forgot: the custom curtains will go in too. But it’s just valences, folks, nothing too expensive.

When Mastercraft came out last week, their rep told me once again that they’re having problems with KitchenCraft… and that KitchenCraft has told them that, for some items, they can expect a 25 week ( yikes !!) delay.

Which reminds me: the one “big thing” we’re waiting on from Mastercraft / KitchenCraft is the thin strip of cabinet which was damaged by the granite countertop installer. It’s a big thing to us because, obviously, if it doesn’t get replaced, we’ll be stuck with a damaged cabinet as one of our “new” cabinets. You’d like to think that a company will keep its word in fixing a problem, expecially when it occurs during installation and everybody knows about it.. and the guy who was at fault informed everybody about it and took blame for it.

But I’m sorry to say that MasterCraft still has not entirely regained our trust, following the whole fiasco where their salesman / our project manager quit on them… and they wouldn’t come right out and tell us that for several weeks (during which, chaos ensued).

Right now, we’re both anxious to get this project done.

But I can honestly say that already, I’m really enjoying working in the kitchen. Kudos must go to my wife, who reorganized all of the contents of the drawers and cabinets. And she did a great job! Everything’s located where it needs to be located. Efficiency in this kitchen has improved greatly!

And the under-cabinet lighting on that black granite countertop is oh-so-cool !!

Kitchen Remodel phase 2, plus Wiring this Old House for Sound and Video!

Greetings All !

Well, the wheels of progress are once again turning in our kitchen.

Shortly after Christmas, I had searched the Internet for reproduction tin ceiling manufacturers, especially any one that could recommend somebody to install one for us. (I just didn’t trust MasterCraft to do the job correctly and I certainly do not trust myself on this.)

The people we would choose to go with would not only be giving our kitchen ceiling a makeover, they’d also be installing a tin backsplash in the kitchen as well.

I found American Tin Ceilings. The referred to ZERO installers in the state of Missouri, so I checked Kansas… and found Scott and Lisa Runnels of “Nani’s Impresa” in Lawrence, Kansas.

I left them …

New photos of kitchen remodel

Filed under: Kitchen — Admin @ 9:56 am

I’ve just updated the photo gallery here with shots I took over the last month during the various stages of our kitchen remodel.

We’re now pretty much at the end of the “cabinet and countertop replacement” stage. My wife has decided to expand this project to give us a tin ceiling and come up with new wallpaper or paint for the walls. After that, we may get one of those rolling “islands”. But my wife’s available money for all of this is dwindling.

Thanks!

Kitchen cabinet replacement project almost over

Filed under: Kitchen — Admin @ 12:30 pm

Greetings All ! And a belated “Merry Christmas” to you!

Gosh, it’s been almost a month since I’ve posted here! The holidays are such a busy time!

There’s been so much that’s happened within the past month, with regards to our kitchen remodel, that I probably SHOULD have been posting once a week!

But instead, I will now summarize recent events:

1) MasterCraft had originally said that they “couldn’t find” the main cabinet that goes under the sink in their warehouse. They knew it was on the order, but they just couldn’t seem to find it. Well, it soon became apparent that somebody goofed! They apparently had to reorder it again… and this time as …

Day One of Cabinet Replacement

Filed under: Kitchen — Admin @ 11:09 am

Greetings All !

I’m posting this a few days after-the-fact, mostly due to the fact that my day-job has been eating up my time lately… plus the fact that my batteries ran out on my digital camera when it came time for me to upload the photos.

On Tuesday the 29th, MasterCraft’s owner came out… along with 5 guys who represented the contractor’s crew… and began tearing out the kitchen cabinets.

I have just uploaded photos into our Image Gallery here … in the “In Progress” sub-section of the Kitchen Remodel…. showing how things looked in the kitchen the evening after they left.

My impressions of MasterCraft’s contractor after Day 1 are: They were very nice, polite, and did a …
