Day One of Cabinet Replacement

Filed under: Kitchen — Admin @ 11:09 am

Greetings All !

I’m posting this a few days after-the-fact, mostly due to the fact that my day-job has been eating up my time lately… plus the fact that my batteries ran out on my digital camera when it came time for me to upload the photos.

On Tuesday the 29th, MasterCraft’s owner came out… along with 5 guys who represented the contractor’s crew… and began tearing out the kitchen cabinets.

I have just uploaded photos into our Image Gallery here … in the “In Progress” sub-section of the Kitchen Remodel…. showing how things looked in the kitchen the evening after they left.

My impressions of MasterCraft’s contractor after Day 1 are: They were very nice, polite, and did a good job!

Now, I’m actually writing this on December 2nd. They did nothing on November 30th… for some reason. But they were back yesterday (the 1st) to start installing the cabinets. My wife reports that they’re encountering some issues due to the fact that the walls and the floor are not straight. They’re going to have a fun time getting the crown molding above the cabinets to look good. Also, the sort of “pantry-like” storage solution that’s going to replace our cabinets has a problem: it appears to be too tall and may need to be cut down, which may mean that the doors will need to be resized.

What fun !!

And, already my wife is upset at the entire area that will be to the left of the sink. She’s lost more counter space than I guess she expected. And what she hoped would be the silverware drawer is now too narrow a drawer for that use. ( I pointed out that when we were choosing a company to go with, she had emphasized that she wanted to actually SEE a drawing of what the cabinets would look like at the end of the project. And MasterCraft HAD created and shown her such computer-generated drawings. But, oh well, I guess we’ll see how things go….)

Thanks!
