Garbage Disposal : Problem & Fix

Filed under: General — Admin @ 8:01 am

OK, so our garbage disposal goes out. You flip the wall-switch and all you hear is a low electrical-kind of hum coming from what probably is the motor. Tried hitting the reset switch, but the problem stayed the same.

I stalled for a day.

Checked the Internet a la Google.

Found a common problem is that the circular disk that acts as a grinder, deep within the unit, is probably jammed. Had to run out and buy one of those hexagonal wrenches (an “Allen wrench” is what I think it is called ?). Stuck it in a socket on the bottom of the unit and rotated it back and forth. Switched the power on and low-and-behold, it works !!

Thanks to Google and a $9 tool ( I bought two such multi-wrenches…. one in inches and a metric one. Home Depot had a set of this for $8.97 !) !!

That’s a whole lot cheaper than a new garbage disposal !
