Kitchen remodel back on-track? We’ll see…
Well, my wife and I went out to Mastercraft Kitchens this past Friday, at the owner’s request.
He basically wanted to make sure that we’re all “on the same page” with what will happen next.
As it stands, we’re still expecting the new cabinets to arrive on November 28th, one week from today. We’re paying MasterCraft to tear out our old cabinets and disconnect the sink. They’ll then do the installation of the cabinets, plus the countertop. (We didn’t have to actually pick out a slab of granite visually… the type of granite we chose is, we were told, pretty consistent throughout.) Then, MasterCraft will install a new stainless steel sink, which we’re purchasing from them… plus a faucet, which we are planning on ordering ourselves.
(But we’ll have to hurry! The whole project will take about 2-3 weeks… and special-ordering a faucet from Home Depot or Lowe’s will take 14 days !!)
We added another minor thing onto the project: under-cabinet lighting. Three fluorescent bar-type lights will be installed at key locations underneath the cabinets. MasterCraft will wire them in to switches. They’ll also help us by wiring an actual box for the light which currently hangs over the sink.
We both don’t like that light…. and the electrical wire for it is coming straight out of a hole in the wall !! No fixture! So, we’ll need a fixture first. And I’m afraid when they put it in, we’ll be forced to put the fixture in the wall instead of the ceiling. This will force us to have to find some sort of sconce light to use above the kitchen sink.
But, we’re getting down to the wire and things appear to be back on-track.
What stinks is that immediately following Thanksgiving, we’ll have to start cleaning out our cabinets. And I’m not sure just what we’re going to do about keeping food in the fridge during the project. Certainly, I’m thinking we should not empty it completely! One has to have SOMETHING in the house, even if you intend to go OUT to eat for three weeks.
This ought to be interesting, to say the least.
Thanks!
