Where’s the Air ??
Today was a warm day… mid-to-high 80′s. Not incredibly hot, but warm enough to make air conditioning necessary.
However, I came home at about 1:30 PM, after running a lot of errands all morning, to find the house was very warm, but the inside blower was running!
I tried lowering the temperature, then turning the furnace off and back-on, but the outside A/C blower would not kick in!
I called Ed Frechin and he came out within an hour. It seemed like something was wrong with the delay between the time when you gave the thermostat a command and the time when the external unit actually started running.
Now, as I’ve written here before, I’ve woken in the morning several times to a warm house, with the interior blower running. I usually fiddled with the thermostat a bit, got it running, and then wondered if I really had a problem or if it was all in my imagination!
Well, Ed replaced the old Honeywell programmable thermostat with a standard digital thermostat. The outside unit seemed to be responding fine, so I was really happy! And Ed didn’t charge me for the thermostat either, to my surprise!
(Note: He REALLY recommended a programmable thermostat, though. Not so much to save money on air conditioning… but, rather, to save money on heating bills. He said it doesn’t take much energy / effort for a furnace to warm a house up 10 degreec, but cooling it down is another story! So, after hearing him strongly advising it, I plan to get a programmable thermostat within a few weeks. — Gotta come up with some money.)
