OK, all cabinet-related work is now finally done
Just wanted to drop a quick note saying that MasterCraft came out on Friday and finally fixed the final cabinet-installation-related problem.
Several weeks ago, the contractor installing the granite countertops accidentally bashed-in a strip of wood to the immediate right of the sink, at just above knee-level. He pointed it out to us at the time, accepted responsibility, and told MasterCraft to bill him.
But then came the long wait… as it took KitchenCraft forever to fulfill the order for a replacement piece of wood.
The damaged piece sits directly between two cabinet doors, as a kind of border. I’m sure it’s nailed directly perpendicular to the wooden “wall” separating the two cabinet cavities.
Well now, here’s the kicker: they didn’t really REPLACE the damaged piece. Instead, they put a new strip OVER it! Not the perfect solution, to be sure, but it looks just fine anyways. Nobody will ever notice (unless they read about it here and then stop by)!
In other news, I finished running one phone cable, two 2-conductor speaker wires (I may upgrade to one 4-conductor wire later on), and some CAT-6 (no, not CAT-5, CAT-6, the next generation) cable up to my home office on the second floor. That’s all finished. The wires are somewhat disguised. The ductwork in the basement is pushed back into place (with a small gap, allowing for the wires to escape). And I’ve got the wiring running along the beams in the basement to where they need to go.
I’m now ready to run cable TV and some 4-conductor speaker wire to the Master Bedroom. I’m on the lookout for deals on speakers, though in some rooms, I’m settling for cheap ones to start with, with plans to upgrade later. Oh, and it occurs to me as I write this that I’ll need another tuner soon. I’ve about run out of speaker ports on the two tuners I already have in the basement.
But my progress may slow down a bit… since it takes spare cash… and what with Valentine’s Day around the corner, plus my in-laws’ birthdays and my father-in-law’s retirement party all coming up, I don’t foresee much spare cash on the horizon.
Thanks!
