Photo of finished concrete steps (and walk)

I finally found the time to snap a photo of our new, finished front steps!   The previous steps were a safety hazard.

Yeah, they “jog” a little bit as they reach the street, but that’s because the city came in and did their tiny part at the bottom of the photo FIRST… and our concrete guys simply poured right up to it.

The Loss of a Loving Friend

Yesterday was a sad, upsetting day at our house.

The time came when we felt no choice but that we had to put one of our two cats, Sammy, to sleep.

We first encountered Sammy when we came to look at this house for the first time.  He was there in front of the porch, waiting to greet us!  For that visit and the next one, we had THOUGHT he belonged to the home’s previous owners.  However, they said no, they said he was sort of a stray who liked to hang out on their porch.

We later learned that his true owner was either the landlord next door or the previous tenant.  In talking with the landlord, he said that …

Concrete steps and some walkway replaced

Greetings All!

Just wanted to post that yesterday, Wednesday the 15th, was a day that I had personally long been waiting for:  we had a concrete contractor tear out the slowly-crumbling steps out in front, bordering the street.  Plus, I had him replace about 16 feet of concrete walkway “above” those steps, as that concrete was starting to show signs of erosion.

We basically have a drainage issue that we have to deal with.  Water comes off the roof, down the south-side down-spouts, and into a nice little concrete drainage trench that borders the sidewalk that wraps around the south and east sides of our house.  However, the drainage trench seems to end up going nowhere.  And the concrete where it ends has …
